The LIB.TWG or the Libraries and Museums Technology
Working Group is a group that works with the services of museums and libraries
on Immersive Education. They focus on
establishing technologies that can be used in the museums and libraries. They
also like to involve others in the process that way there is so many other
ideas brought into the picture. With new ideas and information gathered by
different people it can all add up to something great. LIB.TWG’s goal is to
develop new ideas and technology so that these museums and libraries can be
used in Immersive Education. They also like to involve others and use everyone’s
ideas to make things happen.
Anyone who has experience in immersive education and
libraries, museums and digital libraries and museums can join this group. They
like to have meeting between different people with different skills so that
they can interact and network to create better technology that can be used in
the immersive libraries and museums. Another big aspect of this group is that
they make sure that the information that they are using is up to date and not
old so that these libraries are getting the latest information and nothing
outdated.
LIB.TWG also uses a variety of 3D objects and photos
and videos instead of the old traditional way of getting and viewing information
by book. They use virtual environments to teach people and present information
which is a big step in today’s society since everything is now online. This is
how the world is now and it’s only going to get more technical and getting information
is easier now then it was before. By learning in a virtual world with others involved
it seems to be easier because you have people to ask for help and compare work
with. The article explains a case of a foreign language class in Japanese where
the class goes on a virtual world and share the experience together and then
they all compare notes and thoughts all online. This is the benefit of this
technology.
This whole experience of immersive education or
virtual learning is a much better approach for students now a days. Some
students are afraid to raise their hand and ask a question in class but in a
virtual world that fear might disappear and they will feel comfortable asking.
LIB.TWG’s effort in maintain and establishing better technologies in libraries
and museums have made students life’s easier. This group is established by many
people and they do meet virtually and face to face at times which is also important
to have. Because of their efforts they are making learning an acceptable and
exiting thing to do.
