Class 5, Assignment 5

My post to Google groups along with video:

My personal thought of ones body image is that you are who you are and why are you going to try to be someone that you are not. Just as in the video these women were trying to be some fantasy flawless model from a magazine because she looked perfect. In reality that is not a real person because that picture has been altered in so many ways to make it that perfect. I think that we need to accept who we are and strife to feel better about ourselves. I think self esteem is a huge issue in today's world because people do not think much of themselves and they want to be better or like someone else. As for body image I think people are always looking to change how they look so that they can fit the "standard" maybe of what a model looks like.  I personally think that we need to accept or self's and be happy on how we look and we know who we are because maybe some of the flaws we have make who we are. For example the girl in the video said they got rid of her freckles and she actually likes them.  So you know who you are and once a picture of you is photo shopped its as if your identity was taken away because it is not truly you.

I found this video on YouTube about photo shopping and teen girls self esteem and identity please take a look- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boLA7tV5tZw

My response to Ricardo's discussion:

I agree with you that most people have a hard time with self esteem because they are not happy with themselves for some reason. It is unbelievable what they do with celebrity pictures and how they alter them so that these people can look flawless almost fake which it is "fake". These photo shopped picture of celebrities are not really them so we are trying to be like someone who doesn't really look like that. That was an excellent video you posted.

My response to Yung's discussion:
I agree do not use photoshop excessively maybe you can use it to fix something small such as the red eyes in a picture or fix the blurriness of it. When people do it excessively it is no longer themselves and like you said they lose their identity. Also great video by the way.

My response to WonSun's discussion:
You are right that we should have confidence in our body image because that is the best way to boost self esteem and not let other judge the way you look and tell you how you are suppose to look. We are all different and it is ridiculous when there is a standard set for how a woman should look like. I really enjoyed your video good job.

Overall I thought this discussion about personal identity, self esteem, and body image was great. It is always great to see what others think about what you said and hear their own thoughts as well.
